Birthday cake

Day 37 - Baby turned 1 year old today! Monkey and I made her cake and decorated it with pink icing and sprinkles.

It was a good day filled with balloons, sunshine and love.

Daycare graduation

Day 36 - Monkey had her daycare graduation today. Mr. Penguin and I went to hang out with the other parents (there were 4 kids graduating in the group), have some food and see all the artwork that the kids have been doing.

While taking pictures of my darling girl - that's her on the right - and her friends, I thought it would be funny to get one with them all dressed up and their tongues hanging out. Unfortunately I started something, and no other parent could get a photo without one of the girls sticking out their tongues!!

I'm such a good influence.  ;)

Princess baby

Day 35 - Today I took the girls to the dollar store to get the last minute supplies for baby's birthday. It was at this time that we discovered the perfect accessories for her birthday ensemble.

Caffeine in a K-Cup

Day 34 - The shipment of office coffee arrived today! Just in time too as I used my last coffee K-Cup this morning.

Gotta have my coffee at the shop. How else am I supposed to get through the day?

Cake & Frosting

Day 33 - Monkey picked out the cake and frosting for baby Penguin's first birthday. She chose a vanilla cake with coloured sprinkles and french vanilla frosting, which we will dye pink.

It's perfect. Monkey and I now have a date on Friday to make the cupcakes for the party.

Present

Day 32 - Baby Penguin's birthday is this coming Saturday.

This is the gift her sister picked out for her. She's going to love it! (plus I got it on sale. BONUS)

My fav

Day 31 - One of my favourite things to eat is this salad from Costco. So yummy!

Filled with apples and cranberries and cheese and covered in balsamic dressing...this week's lunches are going to be great!

Mastering the stairs

 
Day 30 - Baby Penguin is now attempting stairs!  Well, she climbed 3 flights today...I'm not sure that qualifies as "attempting" really.  Not bad for her first time!

iPhone

Day 29 - I have borrowed Mr. Penguin's old iPhone (now loaded with the iPhone 4 features) to test if I like it.  If I do, I can keep it as my own.  Mr. Penguin has moved on to the Google android phone and no longer uses it.  YAY free stuff!

Lighthouse

Day 28 - Lighthouses are my symbol of peace. They remind me of home and warm summer breezes. They are beautiful.

This is the lighthouse I bought at Walmart a few years ago. It lights up different colours and is solar powered - it lives outside on our deck in all seasons. We were surprised after a fierce winter when it kept working. Recently it had fallen off of the deck and I had placed it in a camping chair and forgot about it. It rained hard in the spring and the chair was full of water and the lighthouse was submerged in it...but it still works!

Date night

Day 27 - Mr. Penguin and I had a date today. It's been a few months since we've been able to leave the kids and go flirt in public.

We went to the movies and saw "Inception". It was good. We completed the night with some Harvey's and watched the lightning storm happening across the river. It was great fun.

Monkey shirt

Day 26 - This is baby Penguin in a monkey shirt. The same monkey shirt that her older sister wore...when she was 2. And 3.

Baby Penguin is not even 1 yet!!

Recipes to last a lifetime

Day 25 - This spring I decided I no longer liked my recipe books shoved in the tight cupboard. I wanted them on display to inspire me to try new recipes and branch out from our "usuals".

The shelf isn't full quite yet, but I love having the books on display.

Lamp

Day 24 - Today I used my money collected at the local consignment store to buy myself a lamp for my wrapping station.  The ceiling light has decided not to work anymore and it was very dark in my little corner.

Plus the shade is green.  So much better.

Muffin-y goodness

Day 23 - Today the Monkey and I made banana chocolate chip muffins. SO GOOD.

Poor Bunny

Day 22 - Well apparently I didn't have anything new or exciting to photograph today. So I created a life moment to help me out.

I scraped the driver's front side of my car against a cement post that happened to be larger just below window level. :( and it was yellow and black. LOL

The stripes add some focal interest to my Bunny car, no?

Who needs to crawl?

Day 21 - Baby has decided that crawling is an unnecessary part of life.  As a bum scooter, she seems to get around just fine without the whole crawling thing.  Until last night!  Mr. Penguin came in from the other room to find our precious little one standing on her own.

 Such a big girl!  Mental note - buy baby gate.

Backpack

Day 20 - My Monkey starts school at the end of next month. The past 5 years have just flown by!

 I picked up her new backpack this week. It's pink with a "rocker" plaid pattern on it. It's very her. It also came with a matching pencil case and lunch bag. Score.

Welcome home

Day 19 - Mr. Penguin arrived home today after 3 VERY long weeks away. I picked him up at the airport without the kids. He needs a nap and the girls will be so surprised when he picks them up at daycare (I didn't tell them he was coming home today).

My work here is done

Day 18 - This is Monkey feeding baby. As a mother, I am no longer needed.

Mission accomplished! LOL

Baby in the pool

Day 17 - Baby penguin and I went over to my parent's place for dinner. I forgot our bathing suits, but that didn't stop baby! Naked except for her hat and loving every moment.

This is Nanny and baby splashing and beating the heat. It was a fun night.

Quick visit

Day 16 - My best friend had a flight home that stopped in my city. Baby and I met her there for a quick lunch and to catch up.
They bonded a bit and she had baby laughing by the time she had to board her plane.

Rain to ease the heat

Day 15 - We finally have rain after a week of over 35 degree weather! If I weren't at work I'd be outside playing in it. After the week we've had a walk in the rain would do me good.

Maybe tonight when I get home I will do just that.

Cluttered work desk

Day 14 - It is now 45 degrees out during the day.  The a/c at work is still broken.  I sit at work melting...and drinking slushies.  ;)  This is a corner of my cluttered desk in my office.  We have the basics: stapler, 'entered' stamp, mouse, staple remover, calculator, coffee mug (which is not being used to it's full potential in this heat), phone and a photo of Mr. Penguin.

My work life - from 8am-5pm Monday to Friday.

New glasses - the black ones

Day 13 - I got new glasses online. If my insurance accepts the receipt, my TWO pairs of glasses will have cost me....$20. Sweet!!

I'm still trying to get used to them. But I like them. This is me in our sweltering heat at 42+ degrees today.

Baby's first ponytail

Day 12 - Baby's first ponytail. Today at daycare, my little girl got her first ponytail put in. You can barely see it, but it's there. For a baby who was born bald and stayed that way for months and months...I am so proud!

Hot

Day 11 - HOT. Sooooo HOT!! It was 41 degrees with humidity today...ouch. We had the air on at work all day at it never got cooler than when we first arrived. The temperature didn't increase - but it didn't get cooler either. Brutal.

This is the fan we turned on at work to help circulate the air. It helped. But only if you sat directly in front of it!

Watermelon

Day 10 - After a lazy day outside on the swing/deck, the girls and I are celebrating with watermelon.

I love summer!

Cousins

Day 9 - Cousins! My nephew was over for the day to visit with my two girls. They had hot dogs for lunch, played in the kiddie pool, had a nap and then we loaded up for dinner and swimming at Nanny & Dampa's house.

A BEAUTIFUL sunny day filled with excitement, children laughing and tons of fun. Perfect.

Free shoes

Day 7 - My new shoes. They are lime, they have a tiny heel and they are so cute for summer. I saw them at a local consignment store and loved them!

They were then given to me as a token of appreciation for my time and effort in helping the owner with her computer system update.

Some people are too sweet...
